About Cláudia Afonso

Cláudia Afonso is a Portuguese designer and contemporary jewellery artist whose work explores the relationship between form, movement and the body.

With a background in Industrial Design and over 30 years of experience in design, she brings a multidisciplinary approach to her jewellery practice, combining creative exploration, material experimentation and a strong interest in sculptural forms.

Her work is characterised by fluid lines, organic shapes and a sense of movement. Rather than reproducing forms found in nature, she draws on their rhythms and transformations, translating these impressions into distinctive pieces of wearable sculpture.

Working primarily in sterling silver, Cláudia develops each piece through a process of drawing, experimentation and hands-on making. Her collections explore different ways of shaping, connecting and composing forms, balancing artistic expression with the experience of wearing jewellery.

Her jewellery is created and presented at her studio and gallery in Cascais, Portugal, where she works on new pieces, welcomes visitors and shares her creative practice directly with the public.

Each piece is conceived as a small sculpture for the body — designed to move with it, interact with it and become part of the way it is experienced.
